Lembeh - The critter Paradise

Dive sites in the Lembeh street.
Jahir
This dive site, located on the west side of the Lembeh Strait, located south of the dive site 'Makawide' and includes a wide area. It's a pretty strong local sloping strip of sand with a few isolated coral and sand flat areas. During my stay there were some large branches in shallow waters which are nice little things hidden. On a large piece of black elephant ear sponge knew the dive guide a giant frogfish (Antennarius commersoni) are also velvet black. Different types of slugs mainly Aeolids were remarkably present. Even a small panther grouper (Cromileptes altivelis) was located in the vicinity of a coral block. A few exceptionally beautiful yellow red harlequin ghost pipe fish (Solenostomus paradoxus), we found a field between soft coral. Striking was the strong free 'downstream' movement that, in the 1 st time on this dive site, the filming was not easy. At several places there are also the Banggai cardinal perch view.
The northern part of Jahir is a sandy plane of a 3-meters above descends to 10 meters deep. There are also many slugs to find. On one of the many sea urchins toxopneustes I found a zebra crab. Ambon scorpionfish was also an unobtrusive presence among some "rubble". On one occasion I found a glitzy show at a wonderpus that showed color changes. Sometimes one can also find Taylor's buisaal mostly solitary lives and shy around you from a hole in the sand. A baby helmet gurnard was also in search of food. A small brownish gray thorny seahorse tried unsuccessfully to escape attention. On the sand hill we found a hunting 'flamboyant cuttlefish. On the south slope of the sand can also swim out to the east where a long sand ridge is flared. A beautiful reddish brown frogfish ocher as well there are hidden among some loose sponge arms. Many snails and Hypselodoris Ceratosoma 's were found. Near the shore, the dive site and dirtier, the predominant waste on marine life. There is not much to admire.
Dive 13/02/2007
The dive Jahir I will never forget. After rumors that have caught a juvenile Rhinopias in this neighborhood had to stay we went to investigate. We were told to search the sand slope that leads to Makawide. We were soon a devil and a flamboyant cuttlefish. But .... the baby was found Rhinopias frondosa. Only 2 to 3 cm. Needless to say that the camera has to work continuously and also some pictures of the fish used by any underwater photographer and filmmaker has been highly sought after.
Night Diving on Jahir
This site is perfect for a fascinating night dive experience. We found each time a telescope, different types of cephalopods including the "bobtail squid 'one of them and two hengelaarvisjes barely 5mm in size. Despite its small size, this still diligently to fishing with his fishing rod "pesce".

TK 1
Teluk Kambahu is the abbreviation for which state TK. This site is directly south of 'hairball' location. Over the sand that gradually leads to deeper water looks like a green orange flower with bright orange algae sponges in all shapes. It was difficult during the first dive in the beautiful surroundings yet interesting creatures to be found. A false stonefish, also bright orange in color, was a rare highlight. Like all the different slugs dive sites. File Fish, two couples, swam restlessly on the algal plain while two of them each in a violent ritual, courting made. Near a tree stump hid some mature but timid leopard groupers. After several days of strong wind I decided to TK1 back to visit. According to the dive guide is the ideal place to 'cockatoo flounder "and so had to encounter that. At 18m depth, we found one that felt uncomfortable because of our presence. FlashT He has regularly appeared with his warning range. There was also a real stonefish, some beautiful nudibranchs, harlequin ghost pipe fish and a couple a beautiful 'Vir philipinensis "in bubble coral shrimp. During the second dive there was now suddenly a striped white hairy frogfish. At the place where we last saw fish swim the real stone. This was in fact now even a meter away. During subsequent dives we saw many hengelaarvissen. In the immediate vicinity also a devil and several wounded dwarf lionfish. A highlight was the observation of a bright orange devil. Here I saw a peacock mantis shrimp to work building himself a residence under a sponge. Even a bright yellow mantis shrimp, I could perceive. Hypselodoris infucta was one of the many slugs present at the dive site. Another highlight was a beautiful large crocodile fish that I was approaching very close.
In this place I came to the realization that there is a dive site on different days could look very different and what was weak today could well be tomorrow's breathtaking.
The dive of TK 1 - 02/22/2007
Super Dive on TK1. Hengelaarvissen three were found in shallow water but most of the dive I spent my first sighting of a hairy octopus.

Hairy frogfish (Antennarius striatus variant) dive site: TK1
TK2
This dive site, located just south of "a hairball" is mentioned in this dive site very similar. A shallow sand with 'funnelweed "and several species of sponges and algae that form colonies are small colorful. It is between these sponges that most hengelaarvissen be found. We found, among other things, a real rock fish, two witvlek voorhoofdvinvissen swing, giant frogfish, but among the more beautiful symbiosis goby with pistol shrimp on the sand. I was there all the time a witness a battle between two ordinary dwarf lionfish.
TK3
This dive site is well protected "Teluk Kamabahu 'bay and diving, there was a real pleasure. Nice profile and interesting animals. The whole dive site is a large black volcanic sand area and the sand slope decreases slowly at greater depths. The dive guide took me to 19m depth to make a beautiful white hairy frogfish found. That we would meet at various dives. Only 2m from the hairy frogfish (Antennarius striatus) was also a bright pink frogfish between some sponges. There were also some snake eels who hid in the sand. A dorripid crab hid under the sand and held a fire urchin firmly fixed on her back, a superb method of defense. Also we found this place beautiful Ambon scorpion fish back into shallow water, even swing for two main whales. On this dive site we have many kinds of sea horses and found a few 'flamboyant cuttlefish' hunting. We saw several beautiful nudibranchs on the sand under Gymnodoris rubropapilosa, ceratosoma trilobatum, melibe fimbriata, etc. There was also a kind of 'Thor' shrimp that I could not identify. A beautiful shell fire was moving slowly across the sand by the regular opening and fold the two shell halves. In the shallow (1m to 3m deep), there are beautiful Polyclad flatworms, rare pipefish, seahorses and even hengelaarvissen found.
Night Diving on TK3
Again we found the 'telescope'. Hundreds of shrimp wandering around on the sand. Some of them separate species. A few Ambon scorpion fish are sought each other's company on. A beautiful Philidiopsis snail was walking over't sand.
The day of TK3 - 2 dives 02/13/2007
This was the day of TK3. We did two dives during two flamboyant cuttlefish, two seahorses, Tozeuma shrimp, mimic octopus, wonderpus, hairy frogfish and nudibranchs which in some different Ceratosoma even emperor shrimp were found.

There are different types of snake eels can be observed in the Lembeh street.
Larry Retak
This site is located in the extreme south of Teluk Kambahu bay including the dive sites TK1, TK2 and TK3. This "muck" dive site is also an extensive area of black sand at about 10m depth a small rock formation. This little oasis is a venue for some reef fish that find shelter here. On the sand surface can, among other 'dorripid' crab found in sea urchin at the back. Ceratosoma snails also are always present. Snake Fish is hiding just below the sand to surprise unsuspecting prey. Harlequin ghost pipe fish and seagrass ghost pipefish are also available and seahorses. Like all dive sites in Lembeh street hengelaarvissen never far away.
Hairball 1 & 2
Hairball 1 and 2 are two dive sites located just north of Teluk Kambahu bay. It is a sandy area near the shore that starts at 2m depth and deepens slowly to about 10m depth. From this depth starts the sand much more sharply inclined slope to deeper water. Many species of sea urchins (Toxopneustes sp.) Lie scattered on the sandy bottom. There are several groups of rules that fire together around maneuver. Nice big Ceratosoma dress snails have sometimes joined by a beautiful keizergarnaal. In deeper water, we found a wonderful frogfish ruggezel with a slug. A gauge on one another in a frogfish with Emperor shrimp. During the dives, we found that we were always a black hairy frogfish back in shallow water (Antennarius striatus). The devil is always found crawling slowly turned his tail pressed against the body. This dive site may be subject to strong currents and a proper dive planning is also aangewezen. In shallow water I found a very nice helmet shell that was walking.
The most outstanding diving on a hairball
21/02/2007
A great find during this dive. A few cm juvenile striped bat came flying by in open water.
24/02/2007
Ideally, during this dive. We found a small yellow and white veloursvis frogfish frogfish and a dirty-looking dark who stopped near an anemone in an attempt to catch a fish. Dorippid a crab lay hidden in a fire urchin at the back under the sand. The number Ceratosoma snails that were scattered about the dive site was almost beyond counting.

Cuttlefish is found to include Aer Prang
Aer Prang
Just south of the dive site "Jahir" super dive site is "Air Prang. The upper surface of the sand slope is about 5m depth. The slope that leads to deeper water is pretty steep. The dive site leveled off at about 20m and there we find a lot of 'funnel weed' back. It is a dive site with a unique character and incredible views. It is here that we, for many underwater photographers and underwater filmmakers, perhaps the most sought after fish in the world were shown. A beautiful yellow-orange 'Rhinopias sp. "Scorpion we found at 18 m depth. At this depth is also a beautiful yellow spookmurene and some great nudibranchs Hypselodoris bulockii. On several dives we found small juvenile koevisjes tegen. In shallow water we saw the devil and an orange false stonefish. The southern part of the dive site has an underwater topography that looks completely different with a shallow sandy area with sparse vegetation here and there. You can cuttlefish and small octopusjes and the coconut octopus found. Different types of slugs we found also against. A very strange spikes covered with crab was one of the highlights. The rocks are pretty scarce kamtandslijmvisjes found. During one of the dives we found a beautiful Sargassum frogfish but no tail. This was the first Sargassum frogfish that I ever saw.
Night diving at Aer Prang
The night dive are wonderful and are held in shallow water. Absolute highlights was a coconut octopus with two shells around themselves a whole show brought. Our main objective was always searching for the bobbit worm. Unfortunately we do not succeed this but I found there is a "blue eye fish sting '(Minous trachycephalus). We also found a "telescope". During the night dive we found a small but beautiful 'flamboyant cuttlefish.
Aw sucks
Also this dive site is located on the west side of the Lembeh street. But here we go into the water at about one hundred meters from the beach line. Below the top of the sand slope which starts at 5m depth and descends to around 20m. Between 20m and 25m depth are also interesting animals including the very rare to find hairy octopus. Another thorny seahorse we got to see. The beginning of the dive looks like a real muck dive. We found a bright orange frogfish at the foot of an orange whip coral sponges overgrown. As we move further dive, the dive site on a breathtaking beautiful shallow reef. There are many different types of slugs found under Nembrotha 's. On the sea fans can be "spindle cowries' find.
Tandu Rusa
This dive is located just south of the dive site "Police Pier. It is very shallow with widespread algal growth but above a lot of waste. The strong current made the first time I have dived hard and except for a small puffer interesting, there was very little to do. I therefore limited the dive to 51 minutes what my shortest dive so far was.
Two weeks later
What a dive site can look very different. This time a truly wonderful diving, no dirt, no flow. I found a head a "double ended" with a whole load pipefish eggs on the ventral side. Slowly descending to around 10m depth we found two pairs at the Kentrodoris rubescens. We also found flamboyant cuttlefish eggs with a baby in between flamboyant cuttlefish. Like any dive site, a number naaktslakjes.Verschillende hengelaarvissen were found and an orgy consisting of slugs snails 100den Stylocheilus striatus. During a dive drew an "upside down" jellyfish my attention. Below him was a Dorripid crab hiding in the sand. The tide may have a strong influence on the visibility on this dive site. A dive we had started plummeting during tide and we fortunately encountered only minor movement. We found several slugs walking on the sand that we have not seen before. At 13m depth we found a baby hairy frogfish on the sand. A helmet shell quickly hiding under the sand until I see the video lights turned on her. The dive guide is also a beautiful orange veloursvis. This was only the second velvet fish I saw in this month diving. I would have a total of only three get to see.

Divesite Tandu Rusa is located in front of the building.
Tanjung Kubur
Is located in the eastern part of the Lembeh street. It is a very easy dive with a reef starting at 5 meters depth and rifhelling runs well on a sandy bottom at 18m depth. It is a place with lots of algae Halimeda and we were specially to be there to come to search for Halimeda ghost pipe fish. We did not find this but harlequin ghost pipe fish, robust ghost pipe fish (ghost pipe fish, sea grass). We saw a lot Phylididae slugs and also a large Phyllodesmium longicirrum slug feeding himself on soft coral. On the sandy bottom at 20m and there are jawfishes found. Even a small 'broad club cuttlefish' hidden around there are some sponges.

Around the corner, dive site Tanjung Kubur
Angels Window
This dive site located on the east side of delembeh street consists of a rock structure to about 5 meters below the water surface rises. Previously there were a pygmy seahorses Pontohi seen and there we were therefore looking for. We tried several dives but without success. We found it at 27 meters depth in a yellow fan corals two pygmy seahorses Denise. The large amount of slugs and the beautiful vegetation on the rocks make this a colorful dive trip. This dive site is sometimes difficult circumstances, offering to dive because of strong currents. A good dive planning is appropriate.

Dive Spot: Angel's Window
Makawide
This dive site appears to be a real paradise slugs. Here one must, however, to the sandy bottom at the foot of the sand-covered slope on a good diving 20m. The dive site is located near a village and the damage caused by the human presence is noticeable. Notwithstanding the dive site is very interesting. There are a multitude of mushroom corals scattered on the ground. Rifhelling the chalice and rose corals. Prevalent in one beautiful sponges with a giant frogfish. There are quite a few Halimeda algae found and one of the dive guides photographed Halimeda ghost pipefish. Among the various observed among other Risbecia tryoni nudibranchs, Chromodoris kuniei, Doris Glosso cincta, and Phylodesmium longicirrum Hypselodris bulockii.
Police pier
This world famous dive site is located on the jetty of the police station. There is pretty much dirt and debris found in this area with hydroides and sponges overgrown small rock formations. The main highlights were some beautiful nudibranchs belonging to the families of the Aeolids. In only two meters deep was also a beautiful harlequin shrimp under a large leaf punch. This is where the first colonies Banggai cardinal perch were observed in the Lembeh street.

Dive Spot: Pier Police
Pintu Collada
Located near Lembeh Lembeh Island and the nearby resort is the dive site is found on the east side of the Lembeh street. The top of the reef is about three meters deep and rifhelling gently sloping downwards at an angle of 45 °. The reef in a sandy plain at 22 meters depth. Immediately noticeable on this dive site are the huge olifantoor sponges. In some places there is quite a lot of coral rubble can be found interspersed with beautiful coral surfaces histrix. There are quite a few Halimeda algae found in between one can look at the Halimeda ghost pipefish. In shallow water a lot of 'Shultz' pipefish to vinden. We there were also a crocodile fish. Also several nice nudibranchs are found including Hypselodoris Bulockii and many Pectenodoris trilineata. On one of the olifantoor sponges in deeper water was also a yellow reuzenhengelaarvis.
Nudi Falls
This site is perhaps one of the best-known dive sites in Lembeh street. Located on the west side of the street is that Lembeh dive site located just behind the corner to the north pier of Police. This dive should be planned carefully because of the possibility of strong currents. It is a wall dive which one descends to the sandy bottom at 20m +. This is the place to search for the pygmy seahorse Hippocampus Bargibanti. The place is also known for its wide variety of slugs. In 2002 I met my first Rhinopias sp. Scorpion.

The boats to lay just below the branches for this wall dive at Nudi Falls
Nudi retreat
This site is also well known and to observe marine life very similar to the dive site nudi falls. However, the dive site a coral reef that descends steeply sloped at greater depths.
One can find various types of pygmy seahorses. The most common Hippocampus bargibanti which we found three twice in two different Muricella fan corals.

Nudi retreat will be on the water in the small cove Metje against the rocks.
Lembeh resort home reef
The home is a very shallow reef rifvlakte over a hundred meters to prejudge a depth of 10m. It is a unique place where I include the 'dragon Lembeh' could see. To date it still remains the question whether this is a new kind of seahorse or pipefish can be? I also saw my first ghost pipe fish Halimeda. We found also harlequin shrimp, pajama cardinal fishes and an extensive coral area with a huge amount of mandarin fish. Lembeh resort devoted much attention to his home reef to protect it. This super late afternoon "dive site is very restricted access due to its private location.
Coral garden
Just north of the dive site 'nudi retreat "turns the dive site itself towards Teluk Kambahu bay. It is a transition area of corals to the real 'muck' diving. Beautiful coral formations and solitary covered boulders form the backdrop for a beautiful dive site where we found some interesting nudibranchs but also a very special little crocodile fish and ghost pipe fish Halimeda.
Kasuware home reef
This dive site located between the dive sites "Jahir 'and' Aer prang" shows a beautiful sandy loop with scattered coral blocks. In deeper water is a very rich vegetation found mainly made up of several beautiful algae formations. We found great numbers of slugs. There was also a black giant frogfish can be found among the coral rubble and algae and a beautiful yellow orange frogfish warts. There was also a relatively rare whitefish. This site is an absolute must.
